NLV cogeneration plant to be sold
Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999 | 11:25 a.m.
A subsidiary of Enron North America Corp., a Houston-based power company planning to enter the Las Vegas market next year when utilities are deregulated, will buy a 50-watt cogeneration plant in North Las Vegas.
Company officials said Southwest Power LLC is acquiring the plant's holding companies, Las Vegas Cogeneration LP and SUNCO Ltd., from the United Co., a Bristol, Va.-based, privately held holding company with interests in oil and gas, roof supply distribution, golf operations and real estate.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The $75 million gas-fired power plant at 1701 E. Alexander Road can produce 210 million kilowatt hours of electricity -- enough to power 30,000 all-electric homes for a year. United has sold its power to Nevada Power Co. during peak-demand periods.
