Two hunters were shooting at birds Wednesday afternoon and hit an AT&T fiber optics line instead.
Crews worked into the night to restore service to some 15,000 customers in Minden, Gardnerville, Genoa and Jacks Valley.
The Douglas County sheriff's department was investigating the incident.
AT&T recently bought TCI Cablevision.
