An advisory committee assigned the task of determining whether a four-year state college should be created in Henderson will hold its first meeting at 10 a.m. Friday in the Saturn Community Room, 310 N. Gibson Road.

A chairman will be named to head the committee, created by the Legislature earlier this year.

Annual awards banquet will be held Friday

The Latin Chamber of Commerce of Nevada's annual awards banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the MGM Grand Conference Center, 4701 Koval Lane.

The main speaker will be Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, who is also chairwoman of the Nevada Commissions on Economic Development and Tourism.

UNLV yard sale planned on campus

The UNLV Rebel Recycling Program will host its second annual yard sale 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 10 and 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12.

The event will take place at Rebel Recycling headquarters on the access road on the south side of Flamingo Road between Swenson and Cambridge streets on the UNLV campus. Call Tara Pike, 734-5607.

Men, women invited to exercise program

People 30 to 65 who would like to start a sensible program of daily exercise can participate in Dr. Larry Golding's ongoing study at UNLV designed to move participants from the sedentary blahs to fit and feeling great.

The program, which begins Tuesday, is a supervised study of daily exercise from 11 a.m-noon for women and from noon-1 p.m. for men. The study is investigating the role of exercise in the prevention of heart disease.

The annual program fee is $400 and includes tests for blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, additional blood components and percent fat as measured by underwater weighing and skin-fold measurements.

CCSN sets screenings for people 21 to 60

The Community College of Southern Nevada's Dental Hygiene Clinic on the college's West Charleston campus is offering free dental hygiene screenings and evaluations to people 21 to 60 who have not had their teeth cleaned recently.

The screening will determine eligibility as a patient for a teaching case in the clinic.

Screening will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Sept. 9 and again on Oct. 15, 18 and 19. Call 651-5510.

Annual event planned in Boulder City

The 1999 Boulder City Chautauqua will be held 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 11 under the Big Top in Bicentennial Park, Colorado Street, Boulder City.

Donations for evening performances are $3 for adults and $1 for children under 10. Call 294-4365.
