Kroger names new president for grocer

Russell Dispense was named president of Smith's Food & Drug Stores in Salt Lake City by its parent, Kroger Co. of Cincinnati.

Dispense succeeds Abel Porter, who retired from the company. Since 1986, Dispense has been vice president of marketing at King Soopers, another Kroger subsidiary in Denver.

Smith's has 113 stores in eight Western states. It has 14 operating stores and three under construction in the Las Vegas area. The Kroger system has 2,206 supermarkets, 798 convenience stores and 380 jewelry stores.
