Tribal Chairman Arlan Melendez said the grant represents a $290,000 increase over last year and will help the colony implement the second portion of its five-year housing plan.
The population of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony includes 28 acres off Glendale Avenue and 1,960 acres in Hungry Valley north of Reno.
The goal of the Indian Housing Plan is to eliminate overcrowding, replacing substandard housing and meeting the needs of the elderly and disabled in the community, Melendez said.
