ELKO, Nev. - Elko General Hospital nurses will decide Sept. 10 whether to ratify the labor contract that has been tentatively approved by the hospital and Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3
Bob Miller, director of organizing for the six-state area covered by the local, said all the nurses employed at the hospital are eligible to vote and if the contract is ratified, they have the choice of becoming members of the union.
The negotiations began after nurses voted in late February to organize and Miller said the bargaining committee included union and hospital officials and nurses.
The February vote cleared the way for the union to negotiate a contract, but the nurses have to wait for a contract to officially join the union.
Hospital owner Province Healthcare of Brentwood, Tenn., announced the contract agreement on Monday.
