Carson City has a similar program as part of a larger project of inviting residents to bring their traffic problems to the sheriff's office.
A few days ago, Carson deputies worked the crosswalk that connects Silver City Mall on the south end of town with several fast food restaurants on the other side. They handed out a dozen citations to drivers who didn't stop for pedestrians.
The crackdown was partially prompted by the death of a 79-year-old woman with Alzheimers was out early one morning for her walk and was hit by a car at Curry and Bath streets.
