Cracked slabs to be replaced

U.S. 395 is developing cracks and because the pavement is concrete, the repair isn't as easy as laying new asphalt.
Workers will have to tear out complete slabs of concrete and pour in new slabs in their place.
State transportation department spokesman Scott Magruder said the highway is about 30 years old in places and is in need of a facelift.
He said crews won't be doing a complete reconstruction, but will be replacing slabs that are in the worst shape.
The work begins Sept. 24, right after the balloon races and the air races.
It's expected to take about a year to complete. The good news for commuters is the work will be done only on weekends to avoid rush hours.
