Warrant issues after reckless gunfire

A warrant was issued Friday for Fernando Aguire Mendez alleging the discharge of a firearm in a public place.
Mendez is accused of firing several rounds into the air during a confrontation after the game at Mira Loma Park.
He was standing among players and spectators when he fired, police said.
The incident nearly caused the cancellation of the Northern Nevada Soccer League's championship games on Oct. 24.
Organizers were ordered to pay for police officers to patrol during the final weekend of play, but agreed to cancel the games when they couldn't come up with the money.
Community donations covered the cost of security, allowing the season to be completed.
