Public invited to gather with Goodman

Mayor Oscar Goodman will hold his monthly open-door meeting with the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the City Hall council chambers.

Goodman said he hopes to receive input about the two open council seats and who the public would like to see appointed to those positions. He is also interested in residents' input about appointing city employees to those seats.

City Hall is located at 400 E. Stewart Ave.

Bring unwrapped gifts for children

ERA Western Properties is collecting toys for children in the Las Vegas area who might not get a Christmas Gift.

Here's how to dispose of unwanted chemicals

Homeowners who wish to safely dispose of waste pesticides may drop them off today and Friday from 8 a.m. until noon and 1-5 p.m. at the Nevada Department of Agriculture , 2300 McLeod St.

Only pesticides will be accepted; items such as fertilizers, waste oil, paint and batteries will not be taken. Call 486-4690.

Flu shots

The Clark County Health District is offering flu and pneumonia shots Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the health centers located at 625 Shadow Lane; 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Suite 10, Henderson; 3262A Civic Center Drive and 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E-12. Call 385-1291.

Flu shots are being offered from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday by Sunrise Senior Friends, 3101 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 314. Call 735-5510.

Story and crafts

Ages 6-12 can celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the book Rainbow Bridge at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday and make a craft at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. Call 453-3434.

Dutch oven cooking

A talk and demonstration on the centuries-old art of Dutch oven cooking will be given noon-3 p.m. Saturday during the eighth annual Living History programs at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Call 687-4370.

Youth groups eligible for national program

Local units of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls clubs, Girl's Incorporated, Camp Fire and 4-H organizations have a chance to win up to $2,000 for the most creative and best executed community service projects.

The Colgate-Palmolive Company will provide the cash grants as part of its "Colgate Youth for America" campaign. Groups that operated community service programs between March 1, 1999, and March 1, 2000, are eligible to win one of the over 300 cash awards.

Nearly $6 million has been awarded to the nation's youth since the campaign's inception in 1972.

Entry forms are available through regional offices of the national organizations or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Colgate Youth for America Campaign, P.O. Box 1058, FDR Station, New York, N.Y., 10150-1058.

Entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2000.
