Letter: City employees not best candidates for City Council
Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 | 10:04 a.m.
The idea that two city employees (or any public employees) are most qualified to sit on the Las Vegas City Council because they are "knowledgeable" or "experienced" or whatever when it comes to the machinery of government is just foolish. It represents a complete lack of understanding about our system of government.
Public employees are bright and intelligent people but it is their "insider" perspective, which is their strength when it comes to executing policy, that is their fatal weakness that disqualifies them when it comes to making policy.
We, the people, must not be governed by our employees. That's not representative government.
