Summerlin Hospital will check candy free

Summerlin Hospital's Radiology Department will X-ray children's Halloween candy at no cost to parents 6-10 p.m. on Sunday.

The X-ray will show if any metal objects are hidden in the candy. Enter at the Banburry Cross Drive entrance and check in at the admitting desk. Call 233-7545.

Henderson group will host at-risk families

Henderson Allied Community Advocates will throw a Halloween party for families on Saturday at 145 Panama St., Henderson.

Families who attend are from at-risk neighborhoods in the Henderson area, but the event is open to the public.

Demonstrations will be conducted to show parents how one phone call to the center can bring them up-to-date information on 75 different social services. Call 486-6770 Ext. 246.

Halloween Bash

The Sunrise and Green Valley Senior Friends are hosting Halloween Bash 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Station's Club Madrid. Call 434-6500 or 735-5510.

State championships set at Arizona Charlie's

The 1999 ANBC Silver State Natural Bodybuilding Championships are being held Saturday at Arizona Charlie's hotel-casino.

Prejudging starts at 11 a.m. and the evening show starts at 6 p.m. in the Palace Grand Theater. The show will feature 60 competitors.

Tickets can be purchased through Muscle City Gym, 1201 S. Jones Blvd., or call Most Muscular Productions, 341-6388. Ticket prices are $10 for prejudge, $15 for evening show and $20 for VIP evening show.

Children's Home picnic planned Saturday

The annual Children's Home Reunion and Picnic will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the old Children's Home, 711 E. 5th St., Carson City.

The event is being held in conjunction with Nevada Day and is being sponsored by the Division of Child and Family Services, Department of Human Resources, Wendy's of Northern Nevada and Norwest/Wells Fargo Bank. Call (775) 684-4400.

Benefit will help children's hospital

Celebrities and philanthropists will gather to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at the St. Jude Las Vegas Gala and Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament.

The event is hosted by and will be held at the Resort at Summerlin Friday and Saturday. Cost of the event is $200 and golf is $250. Call (800) 227-6737.

Metro dogs, partners take home first places

For the third straight year the Metro Police K-9 unit has won the Western United States K-9 trials.

Metro's K-9 unit brought home five first-place finishes at Sunday's competition at Western High School.

Officer Debbie Garinger and Sneakers won the narcotics test, Officer Tom Moore and Mars took the prize in the explosives test, Officer Bob Johnson and Ex were first in the area search competition, Eric Kerns and Matjo took the agility competition and Officer Frank Sorrentino and Danny won the top dog honor.
