LV Internet usage tallied at 41.8 percent

A new study reports that more than 40 percent of Las Vegans are using the Internet, an average rating among the nation's 64 largest metro areas.

The study, conducted by Scarborough Research, a New York consumer ratings firm, placed Las Vegas 28th on the list of 64 cities, with 41.8 percent of the adult population now using the Internet -- a dead tie with Miami-Ft. Lauderdale. Las Vegas, however, slightly trails the 43.7 percent average for all residents of the 64-city group.

The study reported that Washington, D.C. was the nation's most Internet-savvy market, with 59.9 percent of the adult population on-line. Four other cities -- San Francisco, Austin, Seattle and Salt Lake City -- recorded penetration of 50 percent or more. The top 10 were rounded out by Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and Norfolk, Va.

The nation's least Internet-savvy city, according to the study, is Pittsburgh, with a penetration rate of 30.8 percent.
