Man shot by resident after alleged robbery attempt
Monday, Oct. 25, 1999 | 11:19 a.m.
A man who shot and killed an alleged intruder in his apartment Sunday morning said he was acting in self-defense, but whether he will face criminal charges has yet to be determined.
About 9:15 Sunday morning Metro Police officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2900 block of north Rainbow Boulevard to find Patrick Booker, 18, of Las Vegas dead in the parking lot.
The resident told police that Booker and another man broke into an apartment in the southwest portion of the complex, police said.
One of the alleged intruders had a semi-automatic pistol that the resident of the apartment was able to grab, police said.
The resident said once he disarmed the man, he began firing at both men and hit Booker, police said.
Police said Booker and the other man ran from the apartment. Booker collapsed in the parking lot from his gunshot wounds and died there.
Police said the alleged attempted robbery did not appear to be related to a rash of home invasion robberies that have occurred in the Las Vegas Valley in the past couple of weeks.
Metro Police have yet to forward the case to the Clark County District Attorney's Office, which would make the decision whether to press charges against the resident. Until that decision has been made, the man's name is being withheld, police said.
