Letter: Drivers don’t yield for ambulances
Monday, Oct. 25, 1999 | 9:43 a.m.
I, myself, was about to get out of the car and stop traffic for him. We then proceeded through the intersection and another emergency vehicle was coming toward us. Again we pulled to the side to let them pass, but the people behind us kept coming and the cars on the side did not move. Therefore, another emergency vehicle was trapped -- unable to get to its destination.
God forbid I ever need the assistance of the police, fire or ambulance and tragedy happens -- all because vehicles on the road will not honor their importance. My boyfriend and I talked about this in great length and came up with an idea. What if each emergency vehicle had a police escort to ensure that emergency vehicles don't experience traffic delays. I'm sure by doing this it would be easier and safer for them as well as everyone else. Those people who don't stop should be cited and given a hefty fine.
