Flood control becomes issue for Reno City Council

Councilwoman Sherrie Doyle says she's worried the county may be backing out on its promise to use new sales tax money for the effort.
"I'm concerned they're not going to have flood control. Warning bells are coming in from various places," she said.
Doyle and City Councilman Dave Aiazzi said they're especially uneasy about a county vote last week to shift $8 million in sales tax revenue from flood control to a fund for building a public safety training center.
Washoe County Manager Katy Singlaub said there is nothing to worry about. She said the county is maintaining its commitment to prevent the kind of flood that damaged much of downtown at the end of 1997.
She said some of the tax money is being slated for the training center because the county cannot spend all the money earmarked for flood control at this time.
