Letter: Art flap doesn’t hit on free speech
Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999 | 10:24 a.m.
Elephant dung on a black Virgin Mary with cutouts from magazines is not art. It is an obscene, sacrilegious lie because the "artist's" intent was to create controversy, not art.
This isn't a First Amendment issue, but it is an issue of fraud and cheating the public.
