Boulder City's Adams Boulevard will be planted with 200 trees and 500 shrubs on Saturday in an event that begins at 7 a.m. and includes a free pancake breakfast for the several hundred Boulder City volunteers who are expected to help with this effort to regreen the town.
In the 1930s 6,000 trees were planted in Boulder City. Those trees are now reaching the end of their lifespan and their number has decreased to 3,000, said Roy Theiss, public information officer for Boulder City.
Planting trees on Adams Boulevard is part of a $700,000 beautification project paid for by the city of Boulder City with the help of a $32,000 grant from the Las Vegas Urban Resources Partnership, Theiss said.
"The project was originally bid for $1.34 million. We saved nearly half by doing a lot of the work in house," Theiss said.
Sen. Jon Porter, R-Boulder City, Assemblywoman Gene Segerblom, D-Boulder City, County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury and the Boulder City Council will work alongside volunteers on Saturday.
The planting will take place between Cottonwood and Utah streets. The breakfast is to be held at Garrett Middle School, 1200 Avenue G, Boulder City.
