FBI Statement on Yosemite sightseers’ murder

"The Mariposa County District Attorney's office has filed a criminal complaint against Cary Anthony Stayner in the deaths of Carole Sund, Juliana Sund and Silvina Pelosso. The complaint, filed on October 20, 1999 in the Mariposa County Superior Court, alleges three counts of murder pursuant to California Penal Code Section 187(a), and five special circumstances pursuant to California Penal Code Section 190.2. as follows: Multiple Murder; Felony Murder-Burglary, Felony Murder-Forcible Oral Copulation and Felony Murder-Attempted Rape. The complaint also alleges two sentencing enhancements for the Personal Use of a Deadly Weapon and the Personal Use of a Firearm as well as serious and violent felony allegations.
"A no bail arrest warrant has been issued for Stayner's arrest. The Declaration in Support of the Arrest Warrant and Complaint was ordered sealed at the request of the Prosecution due to the continuing investigation. Stayner remains in federal custody in Fresno, California. The Mariposa County Sheriff's Department has requested a hold on Stayner. An arraignment date on the Mariposa County complaint is not known at this time."
