Community awards given by Chamber of Commerce

The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce presented Community Achievement Awards to 18 individuals last month who have made significant contributions to their professions and the community.
Several hundred individuals were nominated by their peers. The 18 honorees, two individuals each in nine categories, were selected out of 54 finalists.
Recipients under Arts & Entertainment were Mary Warner, associate professor of art at UNLV, and Robert Tracy, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts at UNLV.
Business category recipients were Jerald "Mitch" Mitchell, formerly of Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, and Cherrill Cristman of Cristman Associates.
Communications category recipients were Carol Mittwede of MGC Communications and Richard Becker of Copywrite, Ink.
Education category recipients were Satish Sharma, UNLV social work professor, and Sue Fawn Chung, UNLV history professor.
Humanitarian category recipients were Laura McBride, volunteer at Estes McDoniel Elementary School and Randy Mabe of Church of Christ.
Nonprofit category recipients were Jim Evans of Habitat for Humanity and Mandy Canales-Salazar of the American Cancer Society.
Professional services category recipients were Roberta Vande Voort of Meadows Counseling and L. Joe Coppedge of Kummer, Kaempfer, Bonner & Renshaw.
Public Services recipients were Dr. Thom Reily of Clark County Administrative Services and Shannon West of Clark County Social Services.
Tourism recipients include Susan George Murphy of Ramada Express hotel-casino in Laughlin and Irwin Kishner of Estwin Corp.
