Letter: World Bike Expo disappointing
Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999 | 9:57 a.m.
What was pumped up between the local news media, radio stations and a website as a huge gathering of thousands of motorcyclists and hundreds of vendors, etc., came off like a gathering of 300 or so teenagers who wanted to listen to rock music.
The $23 a head price may have been worth the entertainment to some, but it sure wasn't worth it as a motorcycle show.
All I heard from the vendors was talk of suing for misrepresentation. I hope the promoters of this fiasco learned one thing: Las Vegas is not Laughlin.
Competing with the gaming and entertainment industry is hard enough. You also had to contend with a country fair, Renaissance fair, Italian festival and a large computer show. I also hope those other promoters who think that their event is going to do any better in Y2K, took heed. This one left a bad taste.
