Letter: Cassidy speech rudely interrupted

Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999 | 9:59 a.m.

Maddox says, "No one likes to be interrupted during a pleasant black-tie affair." Well, excuse me, but no one likes to try and speak in front of a crowd that won't be quiet either. Those people should have had the good sense and class to be quiet while the speaker was trying to talk. Anyone with simple manners knows to be quiet while a speaker is addressing the crowd.

To not do so is the same as trying to speak above a heckler. It's very distracting and nerve-wracking. While I didn't attend the event, I'm sure that everyone came out for a nice dinner in support of a good cause, but they showed a total lack of respect and consideration for the guest speaker.

Maddox says that Cassidy finally slipped out after the first course, hopefully embarrassed. I don't think so. I'm sure he left out of disappointment for his ruined evening. I hope the people he left at the museum were the ones embarrassed, for the way in which they behaved. Kudos to David Cassidy for telling those people to be quiet. It's just a shame that at such a function he would have to do so.
