Property of casino owner auctioned off

Monday, Oct. 18, 1999 | 11:56 a.m.

The personal property of the owner of the defunct Alystra casino in Henderson has been auctioned off in Illinois.

The Belleville, Ill., News-Democrat reported that the family belongings of John Connors were sold Oct. 10 in a public sale, netting $160,000.

Union Planters Bank also acquired Connors' Kings Point Health and Fitness Club Oct. 12 for $1.5 million, and Connors' home in Belleville's elite Oak Hill Estates for $1 million.

Connors and his wife, Mary Lynn, filed for bankruptcy in July, claiming $19 million in debts.

The license of the Alystra casino was deemed forfeited by the Nevada Gaming Control Board in September. It has been closed since the summer of 1998. The board levied no fines, but kept all funds in the casino's prepaid tax fund pool.

John Connors is the brother of tennis star Jimmy Connors.
