Letter: Cut Warrick some slack
Friday, Oct. 15, 1999 | 9:56 a.m.
The NCAA should be held partly responsible for Heisman Trophy candidate Peter Warrick's felony (theft) charges. If the NCAA would permit colleges to give spending money to football players, this may not have happened.
Warrick may have (resorted to stealing) because of wanting something others were enjoying. This is not to say what he did was right -- it was unlawful.
But it's long overdue -- players need to be given spending money. They are putting their battered and bruised bodies through a great deal of pain week after week making big money for the colleges and for our entertainment.
