Can you lend a hand?
Friday, Oct. 15, 1999 | 9:43 a.m.
The Lend a Hand organization of Boulder City is trying to locate its former volunteers.
November marks the nonprofit organization's 10th anniversary. To celebrate, a catered dinner for all volunteers, past or present, will be held Nov. 5. State Sen. Jon Porter, R-Boulder City, will be the guest speaker.
Currently there are about 85 active volunteers. However, many volunteers who have helped the organization through the past 10 years have moved, Darla Cady, director of volunteer services, said. "And we want them to come to the dinner." The volunteer organization for residents of Boulder City takes seniors to doctor visits, on errands such as grocery shopping, and has provided companion services.
Since its inception, the group's volunteers have driven almost 280,000 miles bringing clients to Henderson and Las Vegas to appointments, Ed Andrews, president of the board of trustees, said. Nearly 7,000 trips have been made.
The dinner is of no cost to attendees. Businesses who would like to sponsor the dinner or volunteers wishing to attend may call 294-2363.
