Paul Stuart, sports information director at Nevada-Reno since 1981, died Wednesday from an apparent heart attack. He was 49.
"Paul has been a part of our Wolf Pack family for such a long time that I find it very difficult to accept the fact that he has passed away," said athletic director Chris Ault. "His loss leaves a very empty feeling among the entire athletic department. All of our prayers and thoughts are with his family."
Stuart is survived by his wife, Annie, daughters Lindsay, Kara, Kelsey and son, Calvin.
Stuart, a 1975 graduate of the University of New Mexico, was a sportswriter for the Albuquerque Journal and later served as director of information services at New Mexico Highlands University for two years. During the Oakland Athletics' American League playoffs and World Series seasons in 1989, 1990 and 1992, Stuart served as the press box coordinator.
At UNR, he oversaw all aspects of media relations for athletics. For several years, he handled promotions, marketing and advertising sales for the department. He also was a radio commentator and television sideline reporter for Wolf Pack broadcasts.
Stuart received six national awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America and 11 "Best in the District" regional citations for media guides, programs and writing.
