LV dairy exempted from federal regulation

WASHINGTON -- The Senate on Wednesday passed an agriculture bill that includes a provision sought by the Southern Nevada dairy industry.
"This is a victory not only for Southern Nevada's consumers but for the 400 to 500 employees of the area's dairy industry whose jobs were in direct jeopardy," Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., said in a statement.
The bill reorganizes the nation's milk pricing system. Officials said the new system would have forced Las Vegas's Anderson Dairy to pay more for the milk it processes.
Bryan and Sen. Harry Reid introduced an amendment that exempts Southern Nevada from the new system and puts it under regulation by the Nevada State Dairy Commission.
