University of Kansas psychology professors Ruth Ann Atchley and Paul Atchley will deliver lectures at 7:30 p.m. Monday at UNLV.

Ruth Ann Atchley will discuss "Teenage Turmoil and the Developing Teenage Brain," examining the different ways teenagers and adults deal with emotions, exploring how the brain processes emotions and how different parts of the brain interact to determine emotional response.

Paul Atchley will present "The Older Driver: Stereotypes and Reality," a lecture that will discuss the fact that older people tend to drive more safely than their younger counterparts. He will also point out that older drivers are at much greater risk of having a particular type of accident.

Summerlin Hospital will be offering shots

Summerlin Hospital is offering $10 flu shots at four scheduled clinics this month and through November.

Flu shots will be given at Summerlin Hospital 10 a.m-noon Tuesday, 3-5 p.m. Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 25. Also, Summerlin Hospital's Senior Advantage Resource Center in Sun City will be giving flu shots 1-3 p.m. Nov. 5. For more information, call 363-1150.

Paintings, sidewalk drawings scheduled

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is holding a variety of special programs. Call ahead to find out which programs require pre-registration. Among the programs:

Big Impressions: Imprints School presents work by its students, ages 2 1/2 through 9 years old. Enjoy large paintings on canvas and paper with assemblage elements through Tuesday at the Enterprise Library, 25 E. Shelbourne Ave. Call 269-3000.

Chalk One Up: All ages can celebrate National Children's Book Week by drawing favorite book characters on sidewalks at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. On Oct. 22, all ages can enjoy turkey stories and games at 7 p.m. Call 878-2606.

Video on summer camp to be shown

"The Call to Adventure," a new camp promotion video featuring three area Boy Scout camps will premiere 8 a.m. Saturday in UNLV's Hazel M. Wilson Dining Commons.

The camp video, the first ever commissioned by the Boulder Dam Area Council, is aimed at doubling camp attendance at Scout camps next summer. For more information, call 736-4366.

Celebration planned for project completion

Clark County and the Department of Parks and Recreation invite the public to celebrate the completion of the Orr School Park Improvement Project 3-8 p.m. Saturday adjacent to Orr Middle School, 1520 E. Katie Ave.

The event will be hosted by County Commissioners Myrna Williams and Dario Herrera.

The $150,000 park-renovation was recently completed. The event is free to the public and will feature Rec Mobile Games for children, musical entertainment, a Hawaiian style buffet, and a special performance by the Magic Hula Girls from the Imperial Palace at 6 p.m. For more information, call 455-7196.

Workshop scheduled for caregivers Wednesday

The Aging Services Directors Organization will be hosting a workshop for caregivers, "Towards a Society for All Ages: International Year of Older Persons 1999."

The workshop is scheduled 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Sun Mountain Plaza Assisted Living, 6031 W. Cheyenne Ave. Cost is $10 and seating is limited. For more information, call Lucy Perez at 486-3554.

Job opportunities to be discussed Wednesday

Representatives of the Nevada Employment Security Division and the Bellagio will discuss employment opportunities in Clark County at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A demonstration will be offered regarding the Nevada Career Information Systems, a CD ROM-based program with job forecasting, resume and cover letter assistance, trade school information and more. For information, call 633-1070.

Animal Foundation plans its fall fair

The Animal Foundation's fall pet adoption fair will be from 11 a.m.until 4 p.m. Saturday at Ethel M Chocolates factory in Henderson, One Sunset Way.

Over 80 dogs and cats from the Animal Foundation will be available for adoption. The fall pet adoption gives people an opportunity to be with the dogs and cats and get to know them outside of a shelter setting.

The mission of the Animal Foundation is to make Las Vegas a model for responsible animal care that can be duplicated nationwide, foundation officials said. For more information, call Ceres Morris, 737-3100.
