Couple abducted from home, forced to make withdrawal from ATM

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999 | 10:50 a.m.

Robbers abducted a Summerlin couple from their home late Tuesday night, forcing them to withdraw money from an ATM machine before returning them to their residence and robbing them.

Metro Police robbery detail Lt. John Alamshaw said that after the home invasion the husband, wife and a 13-year-old nephew of the couple were bound with duct tape and sheets and left in a bathroom by two robbers wearing black ski masks and dark clothing.

The three victims, who were not identified, were not injured.

They were able to free themselves shortly before 2 a.m., when they called 911.

Alamshaw said the robbers, who were armed with pistols, apparently followed the husband home at about 9:40 p.m. and when he entered his garage, they slipped in behind him.

There may have been a third person involved. The suspects apparently were in radio contact with someone else during the incident, Alamshaw said.

After the two masked men entered the home, they forced the couple and their nephew into the family car and had them drive around to various ATM machines. A small amount of money was taken from one of the machines.

They then returned to the Summerlin residence, tied up the victims and took jewelry and other items.

Alamshaw said the two men fled in the family's black 1992 Toyota pickup truck, Nevada license plate 912 KAR.

He said the husband had stopped at a store in the vicinity of Lake Mead and Rampart boulevards on his way home from work. The suspects may have followed him home from there.
