The world's best practical shooters will compete at the Desert Sportsman's Rifle & Pistol Club Oct. 19-22 in the Practical Shooting Association's Open National Championship. Men's champion Rob Leatham will defend his title against former champs Jerry Barnhart and Todd Jarrett while reigning women's champion Sharon Edington will attempt to win her fifth national title against ex-champs Lisa Munson and 1999 USPSA Open national winner Julie Goloski.
Practical shooting is a sport that tests a competitor's ability to quickly hit a variety of targets, at a variety of ranges using full-power handguns. The scoring system measures points scored per second, making speed and accuracy vital elements in winning. The range is located eight miles west of Decatur Boulevard on Charleston Boulevard.
