Letter: Lack of respect by DMV angers senior
Friday, Oct. 8, 1999 | 9:13 a.m.
As a senior citizen in Clark County, I am appalled at the lack of respect the workers at the Department of Motor Vehicles showed me recently in the new Henderson location.
I mailed my renewal for my auto back on Aug. 15. It had an expiration date of Oct. 1 so I had plenty of time.
My canceled check was my receipt. The DMV, however, says they never received my check nor processed my registration renewal. Carson City told me to see a supervisor in Henderson, giving them a copy of the canceled check along with my copy of the smog and renewal form they sent me. What more could they need?
Now a supervisor says I must take a number and wait about four more hours. I took the extra set of papers and left them with the supervisor and said: "You handle it and mail me my decal so I don't get a ticket." She was dumbfounded.
As I write this on Sept. 27 I still don't have a decal.
Who in the state Legislature could have approved this new system without first trying it out as a sample while running the old? Why is it the general population always pays for bureaucratic foul-ups?
Come on Gov. Kenny Guinn, let's get this state back on track before we hit the next century.
