The future use of federal Housing and Urban Development funds in area neighborhoods will be the topic of a series of meetings this month.
Residents are invited to attend and provide feedback on neighborhood issues and possible future projects.
Meetings will be held:
Oct. 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rafael Rivera Community Center, 2900 E. Stewart Ave.
Oct. 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
Oct. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Culinary Union Hall, 1630 S. Commerce St.
Oct. 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Arturo Cambiero Senior Center, 3300 N. 13th St.

Workshops scheduled for new businesses
The Las Vegas chapter of Senior Corps of Retired Executives will present its next "Starting A New Business" workshop 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the New Business Information Center, 1951 N. Stella Lake Drive.
SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, record keeping, the business plan and a check list for licensing, permits and other requirements. Call 388-6104. Cost is $30 if prepaid or $35 at at the door.
Meeting planned for former N.Y. teachers
New York Retired Teachers will hold a legal plan/elder law meeting 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
The speakers will be Herbert Kramer, director of UFT Legal Plan, and Sasha Greene, Retiree Social Service coordinator. Call 382-3493.
Musical Arts Society plans Sunday concerts
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society invites singers to perform with the society's Musical Arts Chorus, now preparing the music of Mozart, Haydn, and Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
Performances with the Musical Arts Orchestra are planned for 7-9:30 p.m. Sunday evenings in November in the UNLV Ham Fine Arts Building, Room 147. Call Douglas R. Peterson at 451-6672.
Professional Black Women plan symposium
"Smashing the Glass Ceiling," a symposium sponsored by the Professional Black Women's Alliance, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the West Las Vegas Library conference room.
Areas of discussion will include law, arts and science, nontraditional careers, entrepreneurs and elected officials.

Royal playhouse will benefit child care center
A royal playhouse called "The Sultan's Palace" will be up for auction Saturday to benefit the Nevada Association for the Handicapped Childcare Center.
The three-part tent oasis will be on display at the Meadows mall through Friday.
Carseat inspection
The Clark County SAFE KIDS Coalition, Southern Nevada's largest childhood injury prevention agency, will host a carseat inspection from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Saturn of West Sahara, 5324 W. Sahara Ave.
Benefit luncheon and fashion show
The Women's Auxiliary of the Salvation Army will sponsor the third annual benefit luncheon and fashion show at noon Tuesday by Dillard's at the Monte Carlo hotel-casino. Donation will be $35. Call 870-4430.
