County receives $10,000 grant
Clark County accepted a $10,000 grant from the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Association to help the planning division with its Regional Trails Development Program.
The money will be used to hire technical consultants for the trails development program who would assist with planning and coordinating the Southern Nevada Regional Trails Partnership -- volunteers representing various interest groups who are helping to design the trail system.
The planning division's goal is to build more than 300 miles of recreation and commuter trails throughout the valley within the next two decades.
New company awarded contract
A new valet service, 5-Star Parking Inc., was given the McCarran International Airport contract Tuesday after aviation officials complained they had received several complaints about the former valet service.
Aviation Director Randy Walker told commissioners that problems with the former service -- Unique Valet -- included at least one passenger complaining his car was not at the airport when he returned from a vacation. The car was returned to him a day later and 180 miles had been put on it.
5-Star Parking provides service at LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports in New York. It also handles valet services for major awards ceremonies in Los Angeles.
Williams suffers from pneumonia
Clark County Commissioner Myrna Williams was hospitalized late last week because of pneumonia after returning from a vacation in Colorado.
Williams' condition has improved, but she likely will remain in the hospital until the end of this week.
Clark County spokesman Doug Bradford said Williams intended to take part in today's debate about a controversial ordinance that could keep Wal-Mart from opening a Supercenter in the county.
Bradford said Williams would participate in the discussion and the vote via telephone.
