Gather the black and white crayons, slip in a favorite Liberace tape and turn up the volume.
The second annual Liberace Museum greeting card art contest is under way.
Targeted at Las Vegas students in four divisions -- kindergarten, grades one through five, six through eight and nine through 12 -- the dozen winning designs will be reproduced on note cards and postcards to be sold in the museum store.
The contest awards first, second and third place awards in each category. Prizes include various gift certificates and two scholarships to the Nevada School of the Arts for grades one through eight.
Proceeds from the card sales will benefit the nonprofit Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts. The foundation provides scholarship grants to performing artists locally and across the nation.
This year's contest theme "The Piano" commemorates next year's 300th anniversary of the piano.
Students are invited to create their own interpretations of the piano including current or past styles, Sandra Harris, executive director of The Liberace Museum and Foundation, said.
Students are also encouraged to visit the Liberace Museum to see Liberace's collection of historic and custom designed pianos, she added.
Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Oct. 22. Entries must be presented on 8 1/2-by-11 inch paper. Artwork can be in crayon, chalk, markers, water color, acrylic or fabric. Entries and forms should be placed together and inserted into a three-hole plastic protective sleeve.
Drop off or mail entries to the Liberace Museum, 1775 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, NV, 89118, Attn.: Piano Card Contest.
For entry forms call 798-5595, ext. 20.
