Expanded agreement broadens international air service

Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999 | 11:16 a.m.

An expanded code-sharing agreement between America West and Continental Airlines will result in more one-stop service between Las Vegas and Europe and Canada.

The new agreement takes effect a month after the fifth anniversary of the initial agreement between America West, which operates a hub at McCarran International Airport, and Continental, the nation's fifth largest airline.

Under the expanded agreement, seamless ticketing and baggage transfers will occur on one-stop flights to Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, Canada; Manchester and Birmingham, England; Dusseldorf and Frankfurt, Germany; and Glasgow, Scotland.

America West, which has agreements in place with Continental in 120 domestic markets, will fly passengers between Las Vegas and Continental's international gateways of Houston, Cleveland and Newark, N.J.

America West, which capitalizes on Las Vegas' 24-hour reputation with dozens of late-night flights, is the nation's ninth largest air carrier and second at McCarran behind Southwest Airlines.
