Letter: ‘Alert team’ could help protect schools

Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 | 9:29 a.m.

Back in the 1950s I was on an Air Force S.A.C. Base. Their solution to any type of base penetration were trained and armed young men -- called strike force or alert force -- maintained 24 hours and rotated among people in the squadron. Our mission was the first line of base defense -- this did work real well. The schools could have an alert team -- made up of trained teachers as well as students. This would give protection where there is little to none.
