Drug maker pays $481,810 in settlement

Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 | 9:22 a.m.

Knoll Pharmaceutical Co. and BASF Corp., maker of a synthetic thyroid hormone product, made the payment Friday, Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said.

Of the remaining settlement amount, $60,000 went to pay the multi-state legal counsel and $224,190 went to a special account established by the 1999 Legislature for future litigation.

In July, Knoll agreed to pay Nevada and 36 other states a total of $41.8 million.

The drig is used to treat hypothyroidism, a medical condition in which a person's thyroid gland doesn't produce sufficient thyroid hormone.

The $481,810 received by Nevada goes to the state's general fund.
