Jorge "Poncho" Trujillo, 29, entered the plea Thursday before Washoe District Judge Connie Steinheimer. She set a trial date for Dec. 6.
Trujillo is accused of shooting Nevada Highway patrolman Scott Swain in the ankle in August when Swain stopped him for speeding on Sixth Street in Reno.
Swain is a veteran motorcycle trooper. He has returned to light duty but is still wearing a cast.
Trujillo was arrested after a two-day manhunt while taking a nap at a home in Sparks.
