Letter: IRL has made poor choices

I enjoyed Ron Kantowski's column on the Vegas.com 500. I was at the first IRL event in Las Vegas in September 1996 and really liked it.
As I recall, the attendance was listed at (67,000).
The attendance on Sunday (was nowhere close).
Some huge problems with the IRL is that it only runs about once a month, there's a total lack of promotion, someone made a terrible decision to let Fox Sports Net televise the races this year and there are a large number of cautions at each race.
At least the new TV deal is better with ABC/ESPN.
In order for this league to make it, it needs to run 20 races per year at venues like Las Vegas with a tie-in to NASCAR (run on a Saturday of a Winston Cup weekend), with ticket prices aimed towards families.
I've been to about 10 IRL races and have always had a good time. Thanks for the article.
