Letter: High attrition always possible

The IRL has enough problems without Ron Kantowski's wisecracks about the drivers crashing like Wal-Mart computers, etc.
It is not unusual for high attrition at some racing events. For example, the 1992 Indianapolis 500 had an extremely high rate of crash and drop out.
Most of the problems were attributed to the unusually cold weather of the day, but it happened. I would like to point out that CART was still racing at Indianapolis then.
There are other factors from many races that cause a lot of DNF results. NASCAR tries to get around it by loading up the track with as many cars as possible (43 or so) using provisional starts and other mumbo-jumbo formulas to keep cars running around the track. Whether they are competitive or not is of secondary importance.
You are off the mark here. Find a real reason to take pot shots at the IRL. There are tons of them.
