Western governors to focus on economic issues
Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999 | 10:33 a.m.
Gov. Kenny Guinn will be the host for a two-day conference of Western governors in Las Vegas starting Thursday.
In all, 13 governors will meet at the Four Season Hotel to discuss economics and the creation of a technology council for the region.
Hawaii Gov. Ben Cayetano will head the conference that also includes governors from, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming and the territory of Guam.
The governors will begin the forum with a presentation and discussion on economic strategies and the forces that are shaping Western markets, Karen Deike, spokeswoman for the Western Governors Association said.
The group will also look at creating a high technology council that would serve as a strategic alliance among states, technology firms and universities to advance their common interests in a technology-driven economy, Deike said.
Another discussion will focus on how to bring industries focusing on education and quality of life to the West.
