Letter: Southern Nevada gave generously
Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999 | 9:14 a.m.
Southern Nevada residents contributed 230,560 items (115 tons) to the program's 260,920 items (130 tons) total, which will be distributed to families by the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and other local food banks.
Four months of planning and preparation went into Scouting for Food and through this project an estimated 15,000 families will be fed over the next four to five months.
In addition to thanking the residents who gave the food, and the Scouts who took part in its collection, I would like to recognize and commend our other food drive sponsors: Lockheed Martin, Smith's Food & Drug Stores, United Way of Southern Nevada, and Walters Golf, for helping make this food drive possible.
