Letter: Pickets don’t represent workers inside Venetian
Monday, Nov. 29, 1999 | 8:32 a.m.
I'm a porter at the Venetian, and I would like to ask Goodman whom he was elected to serve. Is it everyone or just the handful of agitators outside the Venetian? It might well serve to remind the mayor that it is not the 4,000 team members (employees) that are picketing the Venetian. These hard-working people have not asked to be represented by any union, especially the Culinary Union.
Times change, and so do employer-employee relationships. Not only would Goodman be well advised that the majority of the employees here at the Venetian do not want union representation, but also the press should take it under advisement.
I would like to stress again: There is no picket line. No one from the Venetian is protesting the employer-employee relationship and/or working conditions. The Culinary Union is outside making trouble for the benefit of its own membership, not Venetian team members.
