The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity program on driving under the influence is scheduled 7 p.m. Tuesday in the ballroom of the Moyer Student Union building at UNLV.
A panel discussion will include Sandy Heverly, executive director of Stop DUI; Cecil Rizzo, a victim of a DUI accident; television news anchor Kendall Tenney, spokesman for Think Before You Drink, and representatives of the American Medical Response ambulance company.
A graphic slide show on the effects of DUI will be presented near the end of the program. Call Lance Jerrel at 895-3101 or 451-6043.
Events scheduled for all ages
The Tot Shabbat Hanukkah Party for families with children 5 and under will be held 10 a.m. Friday in the fourth floor Community Room at the Jewish Community Center, 3909 S. Maryland Parkway.
The party will include Hanukkah songs, games and activities in addition to the JCC's usual Tot-Shabbat program. The fee is $7 for members and $10 for nonmembers.
Also a teen Hanukkah dance will be held 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. Ninth through 12th graders will enjoy food, music, games and an opportunity to socialize with friends. The fee is $7 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Call 794-0090.
Class to be held by Henderson Recreation
A Chinese cooking class is being offered 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson.
The cost is $15 and the class is sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. An additional $5 supply fee is due to the instructor at class. Call 565-2121.
Walk-run event to help Junior League
The Junior League of Las Vegas will hold its third annual Jingle Bell Jog -- a 5K Fun Run/Walk and a 1-mile fun walk through Summerlin -- Saturday at Trails Park.
All proceeds from the run will benefit the Junior League's Education Grants Program. Preregistration will be held 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday at Copeland Sports, 2178 N. Rainbow Blvd., in the Best of the West Shopping Center. Call 822-6536.
Ceremony planned at county library
A ceremony honoring the World Peace Flag will be held 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The ceremony will feature prayers for the peace and happiness of all countries, an enlightening ceremonial gathering and the flags of all nations. Admission is free. Call 736-0902.
Lighting ceremony set for cactus garden
The fifth annual Ethel M Chocolates Cactus Garden lighting ceremony will be held 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at 2 Cactus Garden Drive, Henderson.
Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson will officially light the cactus garden.
After Friday the cactus garden will be lighted 4:30-11 p.m. daily through Jan. 3. Tours of the garden are free to the public. Call 737-3100.
Hanukkah
Rabbi Mel Hecht of Temple Beth Am will preside over the public lighting of the Hanukkah menorah at 7 p.m. Friday in the Ice Lounge at the Santa Fe hotel-casino, 4949 N. Rancho Drive. Call 838-6917.
