Two injured in traffic accident

Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 | 10:26 a.m.

Metro Police believe high speed and alcohol may have played a part in a two-car collision on west Flamingo Road Thursday night.

About 7 p.m. a convertible Ford Mustang headed east on Flamingo collided with a compact car making a left turn onto eastbound Flamingo from Cameron Street, Lt. Gary Schofield said.

"From what witnesses have told us it looks like the Mustang took off from the light at Decatur (Boulevard) and was going too fast for the conditions," Schofield said. "Basically it looks like he was drag racing by himself."

The collision at Flamingo and Cameron sent the Mustang spinning down Flamingo, where it came to rest more than 100 feet from where it hit the other car.

Eastbound Flamingo from Decatur to Cameron was littered with glass and closed for more than an hour as police investigated the accident.

The drivers of the two cars were taken to University Medical Center, where a blood draw was to be taken to determine if alcohol played a factor in the accident, Schofield said.
