SCORE International, America's foremost desert racing sanctioning body, recently announced a modified, five-race schedule for the 2000 SCORE Desert Series, designed to showcase the start of the new millennium.
In addition to announcing the sponsorship renewal for two popular races in Southern Nevada, SCORE has announced the spectacular SCORE Baja 2000 -- "A Race For The Ages."
SCORE also reported that the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has agreed to a two-year contract extension as the title sponsor of both the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge and the SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300. Three of the events, all mid-to-long-distance endurance desert races, will be held once again on the Baja California, Mexico, peninsula along with the two multi-lap races in Southern Nevada. The annual SCORE Fireworks 250 race in Barstow, Calif., will not be held in 2000 to allow teams more preparation time for the massive 2,000-mile race which will conclude the 2000 SCORE Desert Series.
"We are on the threshold of the new millennium and the 2000 SCORE Desert Series will be one that racers, manufacturers and fans will remember forever," said Sal Fish, longtime CEO of SCORE International.
"Having the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority renew its Laughlin and Primm race sponsorship for the next two years seriously enhances the SCORE position in the motor sports world. Final negotiations are also under way for the national and international television package for the 2000 SCORE Desert Series."
Kicking off the season will be the sixth annual Laughlin Desert Challenge, Jan. 20-23. Concluding it will be the SCORE Baja 2000, which will be a point-to-point race starting in Baja California Norte and finishing in Baja Sur, Nov. 10-17.
Rounds 2 and 3 both will be held in Mexico. The 14th Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 is set for March 17-19, followed by the 31st Tecate SCORE Baja 500, June 2-4. The 5th SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 will be held Aug 4-5 in Primm, 35 miles south of Las Vegas.
