Letter: CSU two-trip theory off base
Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 | 10:29 a.m.
I keep noticing the media and others bringing up how Colorado State may not be a good Las Vegas Bowl team because it would be making two trips to Las Vegas in three weeks.
I really don't think many CSU fans will be making the trip (this weekend). If this was BYU, then two consecutive trips to Las Vegas would be (an issue).
I think CSU has played in Las Vegas three times, and doubt they've ever brought more than 1,000 fans. CSU and New Mexico couldn't combine for much more than 5,000 tickets for the WAC championship two years ago.
I can see the argument that the bowl may not want a rematch between Fresno and CSU, or that CSU has a nonexistent fan base (I think Wyoming would draw better -- they can't draw at home but many of their NFR-bound fans would not mind coming a bit earlier). But the two trips to Las Vegas theory doesn't wash.
That argument would mean anyone playing basketball at UNLV in late February to early March would not want to show up to the conference tourney here. Somehow, I think that would not be the case.
