Station carrying Art Bell sold, taking Spanish format next week
Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999 | 11:10 a.m.
The Las Vegas radio station carrying Art Bell's syndicated show has been sold and will begin a new Spanish-language format next week.
KVBC FM-105.1, which broadcasts as Hot Talk 105.1, was sold to Excel Communications, San Jose, Calif. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. As part of the deal, the radio station will sever its ties with KVBC Channel 3, Las Vegas' NBC television network affiliate.
The station, which carries Bell's radio program originating from Pahrump overnight, will switch to a satellite network feed at midnight Dec. 2. Officials today could not say which Las Vegas stations would pick up 105.1's syndicated shows.
J.R. Lorenzon, general manager of the station, said about nine employees, including on-air talent and technical staff, would lose their jobs.
KVBC FM's talk format includes local talk programming in the morning hours and syndicated call-in shows the rest of the day.
