New hearing set for Margaret Rudin in Massachusetts court

Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999 | 4:09 a.m.

A new status hearing has been set for former Las Vegan Margaret Rudin, who is accused of killing her millionaire husband nearly five years ago.

Rudin did not appear Wednesday at a pretrial hearing in Middlesex Court in Massachusetts. Another status check was set for Dec. 13.

Meanwhile, the Nevada Attorney General's office has filed formal papers seeking her extradition to Nevada. Her attorney announced earlier she would fight extradition.

Gov. Kenny Guinn signed the papers earlier this week.

Rudin, 56, who is in jail in Framingham, Mass., is charged in the murder of her husband, Ron Rudin.

She spent more than 2 1/2 years on the run until she was captured by Massachusetts State Police on Nov. 5 at an apartment in Revere, Mass.

Ron Rudin's body was found partially buried near Lake Mojave in January 1995. Rudin, a 64-year-old real estate agent, developer and gun dealer, had disappeared on Dec. 18, 1994.

Rudin disappeared shortly after the Clark County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging her with her husband's death on April 18, 1997.

Police thought they had found her in Phoenix in September 1998, but she evaded Arizona authorities by using false identification papers.
