A 72-year-old Clark County School District crossing guard remains in serious condition at University Medical Center after she was hit by a car in Henderson Tuesday afternoon.
The crossing guard was working at the intersection of Wigwam Avenue and Valle Verde Boulevard at about 3:45 p.m., when she was hit by a 16-year-old girl driving her 1999 Ford Mustang, Henderson Police spokesman Officer Charlie Johnson said.
The crossing guard was in the crosswalk holding up a stop sign for north and southbound traffic on Valle Verde when she was hit.
The Mustang was headed west on Wigwam and was making a left turn to head south on Valle Verde when the driver struck the guard.
The guard was flown by helicopter to UMC with serious injuries, Johnson said.
According to police the driver of the Mustang said she was having difficulty seeing as she entered the intersection because of glare from the sun. Johnson said that charges against the 16-year-old are pending.
Greenspun Middle School and Bartlett Elementary School are both a short distance from the crossing guard's post, and several children witnessed the accident as they were walking home.
